Design And Usability
Danby 30 pint dehumidifier is clean, modern yet holds a familiar design that everyone will get accustomed to. Comes in black or white color with a slight silverish tone in our humble opinion, the latter is more appealing to the eyes as it blends well with most home decor. Dimension-wise, it is not particularly bulky at only 15.4 x 19.8 x 11.1 in and 34 lb in weight. Casters are available for easy transporting as with most dehumidifiers in this class.
Right at the front, you have a large water bucket that can hold at least a few days of water on normal operation. There are side thin handles that allow you to grab onto the bucket for quick removal and emptying. The water level indicator might not be the biggest, you can still peak through how much water has occupied the tank. Ventilation is at the sides and rear, while direct gravity drainage is located at the bottom back. We have no problem connecting the drainage with a standard garden hose.

At the top, there are the usual electronic controls with a blue LED display to fiddle around with. The LED display will show either the set humidity, the ambient humidity, or the timer function. From the left, you have the smart dehumidify button, filter button, continuous mode button, fan button, timer button, up and down button, and power button. The first button will activate smart dehumidify mode with the indicator light on. Smart dehumidify mode automatically sets the humidity and fan speed based on the ambient temperature and dampness. When the filter indicator light illuminates, stop the operation and proceed by cleaning the filter. Press the filter button once to reset the indicator light once the filter is cleaned. Press the continuous mode button to activate/ deactivate the continuous mode. The indicator light will lit when it is active. Press the fan button to cycle between low and high speed. If the indicator light is up, that means the fan is at high speed. The timer button lets you activate the timer countdown mode. The up and down arrows allow you to set the desired humidity or the timer setting. The humidity can be set between 35-85% with +/- 5% on every press. Lastly, the power button turns on or off the dehumidifier (duh). There is also a defrost and bucket indicator light right at the top left. The defrost indicator will illuminate when there is frost buildup on the coils due to cold temperatures. The bucket indicator light is pretty much self-explanatory. It will light up when the bucket is full and lights off otherwise.
To recap on the specification, you have a standard front bucket, 24-hour timer, washable filter, casters, and direct drainage outlet. Go with the DDR050BJWDB model for the basic non-pump version or DDR050BJPWDB that comes with a vertical pump. Safety features wise, there is an auto shut off that activates when the bucket is full, automatic de-icer operation as low as 41ºF (5ºC) temperatures, and auto restarts after power failure. Danby 30-pint is also Energy Star rated with a 2-year limited warranty on parts and labors.
Dehumidification Technology
Danby 30 Pint is a very capable dehumidifier in its own segment. At 30 pint capacity, it can cover around 1,500 square feet of moisture air and odor within 24 hours period. More than adequate for any bedroom, basement, garage, or bathroom with a humidity level higher than 50%. Comes in 2 fan speed (low/ high), most of us will rely on the uniform low speed that will eventually get the job done. At high speed, it will capture moisture faster but is not necessary if you plan to run it throughout the night. Overall the performance is consistent and identical to other dehumidifiers in its class. By reducing room humidity below 50%, Danby 30 Pint dehumidifier can alleviate mildew/ mold allergies and prevent the pathogen from thriving in your home.
Underneath Danby 30 Pint Dehumidifier is powered by the familiar refrigeration technology. It is effective, long-lasting, and catered for high dehumidification output. Like an air conditioner, damp air is drawn into the machine and passes through the cold coils. The air will be frozen, water droplet will be extracted, and drip into the bucket. Air will now pass through the compressor, heated, and released as mists. A removable filter is bundled in as well to block dust, mold, and other allergens from traveling in the air. Instead of emptying the bucket, you can also rely on the continuous gravity drain or built-in pump (model specific) to clear the water straight to a draining floor. Keep in mind that the direct drain outlet might not be compatible with a bigger garden hose.
Danby 30 Pint Dehumidifier is suitable to be used in the bedroom as it is considerably silent. The noise level is below 55 dB even at high-speed mode. You can place it near the bathroom and allow it to run through the night. As an Energy Star Rated unit, power consumption is also at a reasonable rate but unfortunately, we do not have the official figure. Rest assured it will not be too far off from other 30-pint model benchmarks.Price Guide
Danby 30 Pint dehumidifier is very well priced at around the region of 150 excluding shipping. You will get all the bells and whistles including a digital display and multiple drainage options. Due to its popularity, parts are easy to seek if there is a need for replacement. As usual, the built-in pump and garden hose is not bundled with the starting price.Pros
