Design And Usability

Friedrich 70-Pint dehumidifier has a very clean distinctive look that you can tell it’s Friedrich even from far. At 15 x 23.2 x 12 in, Friedrich D70BP 70-pint is not a very bulky dehumidifier for its large size category. It is however heavy at around 50 lb that we can’t figure out why. Moving around the dehumidifier can be a chore despite having 4 very sturdy casters. The front condensate bucket is slightly bland for our taste that should have included a water level indicator. One saving grace is the bucket can be easily slid out for emptying. Air inlets are nicely tucked on the sides with outlets located at the top. At the back, you have the built-in drain pump that can drain the condensation out vertically or horizontally. There is also a continuous drainage outlet that can be connected with a garden hose to push the collected water out.

Let’s draw our attention now to the controls. Starting on the left is the power on/ off button that is self-explanatory. Next to it is the fan speed button where you can set it to either low or high. Timers button can be set to turn on or off the dehumidifier. Use the arrow buttons to adjust the interval timer between 1-24 hours. The arrows button can also be used to set the desired relative humidity level you want the dehumidifier to work on. During adjustment, you can refer to the digital humidity display. There is also another digital display that shows the current room temperature. The most right °C/ °F buttons allow you to switch between °C or °F in the temperature display. Lastly, there are 2 passive indicators light on top. The bucket lamp will light up once the bucket is full and needs emptying. The defrost lamp will light up when the dehumidifier is in defrosting mode.

Overall, Friedrich 70 Pint dehumidifier build quality is great for everyday use. There are some questionable fitting especially on earlier batch models but it should be sorted by now. The official 1-year warranty is on the shorter end but no doubt this machine will last longer than that.

Dehumidification Technology

One of the best Friedrich 70 Pint comes in the typical 2-speed setup like every other dehumidifier in its segment. The moisture removing speeds are evenly distributed so you can feel the differences in power and noise levels. The operation cut-off time is also accurate and sensitive when the set humility point is reached. We have zero issues running Friedrich 70 Pint in a bedroom, garage, living room, basement, or office with a relative humidity level above 50 percent. Great in alleviating mold and mildew growth, moldy smell, water damage, breathing issues, and restless nights due to humid air.

Powered by refrigerator technology that is very effective in bringing down dampness in a room. By absorbing damp air towards the air inlet, the permanent filter will block particulates like dust and hair from moving forward. The damp air will now go through condensation via the refrigerated coils to extract the moisture out. The extracted moisture will slowly drip down to the bucket while the dry air will be heated and release as mist. The refrigeration process will repeat itself until a humidity point is achieved. To ensure the dehumidification efficiency, Friedrich D70BPA 70 Pint needs to be maintained periodically especially on the ventilation part.

Let's talk about the noise level as this is not Friedrich D70BP 70 Pint strongest suit. You will hear a soft humming noise when the dehumidifier is running at a low speed. With high speed selected, clear fan noise can be heard that is very distracting during work and sleep. So keep it at low speed if you are going to operate it for long hours. As for power consumption, Friedrich D70BP has modest power usage with its Energy Star Certification. It is comparable to a 50-pint unit unless you kept it running high all the time.

Price Guide

Less than 240 dollars for a 70-pint dehumidifier with a built-in pump? One of the biggest selling points for Friedrich D70BP is the package. It offers the same specification and more compared with most 70-pint models. It is also priced very close to other competitor's 50-pint dehumidifiers that do not even come with a drain pump. Like all dehumidifiers, there is no recurring cost to bear as Friedrich D70BP house the same permanent filter. Just one price and you will be good to go for many years.
