Ivation IVADM45 Thermo-Electric Intelligent Dehumidifier Review: Up Mid-size!

Want to jump out from the boring Thermo-Electric design? Ivation IVADM45 dehumidifier is your call. A mid-size model that is powered by a reliable and silent Peltier technology. While we normally lean towards a more compact size dehumidifier, the boxy shape body does have a charm of its own. Is the higher airflow output worth paying the extra dollar though? Can it fit on a small bathroom vanity? Find out in our full review below.

Usability

There’s a lot to take in about the Ivation IVADM45 Thermoelectric design. It looks big and bulky despite the 8.6 x 13.8 x 7 in dimension and 6.9 lb weight suggests otherwise. Portable enough for room to room dehumidifying when needed. At the front, you have a black strip that hosts green “on” LED, Yellow “full” LED, RH level display with up/ down controls. The digital display is a nice touch compared with other basic Thermo-Electric dehumidifiers. The air inlet is tuck at the back with the dry air outlet at both sides.

Continue at the back, there is a decent size water tank that comes with a pull-out handle. Removing the water tank for emptying is fairly easy with no pulling resistance. With the standard displacement hole and plug, the 68 oz water tank is good enough to hold 1-3 days of water depending on the humidity level in a room. The single on/ off switch is smack in the middle along with a carrying handle. Even if you forgot to empty the water tank, the automatically shut-down feature will kick it to prevent overflow. Right at the bottom, there are 4 rubberized stability feet that help boost the dehumidifier stability and prevent it from tipping over. Last but not least, a standard 1-year warranty is included in the package that covers any manufacturing defects.

Dehumidification Technology

Ivation IVADM45 Thermo-Electric Intelligent Dehumidifier is great at removing excess humidity and musty mold smell in a tight area. This Thermo-Electric Intelligent Dehumidifier can pull in moisture quietly up to 25 ounces per day at 86° Fahrenheit and 80% relative humidity. Enough to cover 100 square feet of room space such as in the bedroom, caravan, kitchen, bathroom, and a small boat. Another strong suit of Ivation IVADM45 is the auto humidistat function. A useful and rare feature in a small dehumidifier. By setting the relative humidity level between 40-80 percent, Ivation IVADM45 will make the necessary adjustment to maintain the RH level. When the humidity level exceeded the set value by 5 percent, Ivation IVADM45 will automatically turn on to drain out the moisture. Vice versa, Ivation IVADM45 will turn off once the humidity level drops below the set value by 5 percent.

We love thermoelectric dehumidifiers. It is efficient, silent, and uses little electricity with no moving parts. Ivation IVADM45 is exactly that and is doing an incredible job at it. Through the Peltier effect that converts temperature differential into electricity and vice versa. First, damp air will be pulled inside the filtration. the combined cold/ heat sink module will then perform heat and condensation forcing moisture to be extracted from the air. With moisture now drip down into the water tank, only dry air will be dispersed out and the cycle will repeat until the set humidity level is achieved (below 50%).

What's great about Ivation IVADM45 Thermo-Electric Dehumidifier is the whisper-quiet operation. The Peltier technology is downright silent during the entire operation. you barely hear any noise other than subtle fan spinning on closeup. The 60-watt power consumption is not the worst but is on the high side for its segment. Fortunately, there is an auto humidistat that helps though in keeping the electricity in check.

Price Guide

Truth be told. Ivation IVADM45 is at a weird spot. At a price of 79.99, it is neither cheap nor expensive. For the boost in performance, is it worth paying 2 times more than an entry-level dehumidifier? Yes, it does as you're getting a better price per ratio output. Ideal for people with hypersensitivity, asthma, or are allergic to mold. However, if you're going to use it in an enclosed area with very limited spaces, a smaller dehumidifier might be better suited.
It is not easy to find Ivation IVADM45 in the retail store even the likes of Walmart, Best Buy, and Target. If you are planning to get it online, you can try Amazon or the official website. Both offer a great discount with the usual free shipping and 30-days return policy. While you're there, you can also compare with other Ivation models on the spec and price.
