Tosot 50 Pint Dehumidifier Review: Dependable machine!

A brand with 20 years of experience in manufacturing, researching, and designing. TOSOT 50 pint dehumidifier is a fan favorite for a good reason. It offers decent specification, performance, and reliability at a very competitive price. However, the price point is very close to the 70-pin counterpart that can take it more moisture at one go. So why should you still go with this mid-range variant? Should you just splash a little bit more for the bigger unit instead? Get the full answer in our TOSOT 50-pint dehumidifier review below.

Design And Usability

The giant white box as we called it. TOSOT 50 pint is a big and bulky dehumidifier. It is the exact size, design, and weight of a 70-pint model at 14.8 x 24 x 11.4 inches/ 51.8 lb weight. The ventilation occupied a large chunk of the front space with a bottom bucket taking up the rest. The water bucket is very easy to remove for emptying and put back despite its size. With the bucket removed, you can also find a washable air filter tuck inside and can be slide out for cleaning. Moving to the back, you will find the usual plug slot, drainage access for the gravity pump, and four casters right at the bottom to help with the movability. You know, the usual dehumidifier setup.

Tosot 50 Pint Dehumidifier Control Panel

Sticking with the controls, there are 7 buttons and a display screen on the top panel. The power button with indicator light is self-explanatory. The filter button is to reset the filter indicator light that reminds you to clean the filter after 250 hours of operation. Used after you have washed the filter. The center – + buttons control the humidity level at 5% increments per click. Set your desired humidity level between 35%-80%. You can also activate nonstop mode by repeatedly click on the – button until the display screen shows NS. The nonstop indicator light will also illuminate the mode you’re in. Fan speed will change between low, medium, and high per click. The timer button will either turn on or off the dehumidifier at an interval of 2/ 4 hours. When the dehumidifier is active, it will deactivate the machine when the time is up. When the dehumidifier is inactive (off), it will do the opposite.

For a model that comes with an internal pump, there is a dedicated pump button. First, connect a drain hose to the outlet, then press and hold the button for 3 seconds to activate it. Other passive features include an alarm sound that will beep for 10 seconds when the bucket is missing for more than 3 minutes. The full indicator light will stay on when the bucket is full or not inserted correctly.

To recap on the spec sheet, there is the usual front bucket, casters, washable air filter, 24-hour timer, and back drainage outlet. Safety features include auto shut-down when the water tank is full, anti-frost that prevents ice from freezing up in the coil, and power outage restart.

Dehumidification Technology

TOSOT 50 pint dehumidifier is a solid moisture removal machine. At 3 adjustable fan speeds, it can cater to a room size between 1,500-3,000 square feet. More than enough to cover the bedroom, garage, basement, and even a bathroom that is excessively damp with mustiness smell. Thanks to the reliable auto defrost, operating at low temperatures will not cause the dehumidifier to freeze up. If you plan to leave the dehumidifier running all night, TOSOT will not have any issue maintaining the dehumidification performance with minimal heat generated. There is decent airflow input and output even if is running at the lowest speed.

TOSOT 50-pint dehumidifier is powered by the familiar refrigeration technology that can keep home humidity level under 50% and halt microorganisms growth. How it works is simple. Damp air is sucked into the ventilation and has to pass through a filter. The filter will capture harmful particulates like dust, pet dander, mold, pollen leaving only clean air out. The clean air will now flow through freezing cold pipes for condensation. The extracted water droplet will drip down to a collection tray or straight to a drainage hole. Finally, the dry air will now flow to the compressor and heated into mists for dispersion. The dehumidifier will only shut off itself once a preset humidity point is achieved or the water tank is full.

Perhaps the biggest advantage of having a 50-pint unit over a 70-pint is the lower noise output. TOSOT 50-pint dehumidifier noise level is soft at low speed. subtle at mid-speed, and loud but bearable fan noise at high speed. For overnight use, you could set it to low or mid-speed to reduce the air humidity while you sleep. Being an Energy Star Rated unit, power usage is reasonable for its class but do not expect it to be super energy efficient like those dehumidifiers powered by Peltier technology.

Price Guide

As mentioned earlier, Tosot 50 Pint dehumidifier is well-priced but it's slightly costlier for the non-pump version. For the price, you do get all the techs, features, and safety features as standard. In our humble opinion, we recommend you to either step up to the 70-pint variant if your home is constantly facing water damage, rust, and mold infestation. If you plan to use it in a small room and nowhere else, step down to the 30-pint variant. It's your call.
Let's ignore Tosot official website for now as it has rather limited info. There is very limited availability for TOSOT 50 pint dehumidifier. Amazon has more stock for other variants but not sure why the 50-pint variant is left out. If you do find one, just go for it as it probably has the lowest price in town with free shipping (prime). Otherwise, try to hunt for one in your local retailers like Walmart, Costco or Home Depot.
